Johns Creek Beautification Announces ArtSpot Public Art Initiative

artspot-logo.jpgJohns Creek Beautification, Inc. is proud to introduce ArtSpot, a juried outdoor public art initiative to promote art in public spaces throughout the city of Johns Creek, Georgia. This initial display of visual images placed around the city is an exciting first step in developing a public art program aimed at enhancing culture and community identity.

ArtSpot will feature an annual rotating display of sculptures funded through state and regional grants and private donations. ArtSpot's goals include expanding visual arts to varying media, creating sculpture walks, and purchasing/commissioning of permanent works to be donated to the city.

Johns Creek Beautification, Inc. issued a national call for art in July to established sculpture artists, art institutions and professional organizations. Submissions are judged by our Public Art Committee, and will comply with the Community Standards established by the Leadership Johns Creek Public Art Master Plan adopted by the Johns Creek City Council. The sculptures are intended to be installed in select locations, including right of way, public parks and roundabouts beginning in November 2015 and will be displayed for a period of one year.

The City of Johns Creek Public Art Board will be conducting a public hearing on September 24, 2015 at 6:30 pm at City Hall, for the purpose of reviewing the initial submissions for recommendation to the City Council for final action on October 26, 2015.

In addition, ArtSpot will be conducting a Kickstarter fundraising campaign from September 26, 2015 through October 18, 2015 with the goal of purchasing the first permanent sculpture and to generate public awareness and engagement in this new initiative.
