JCB Supports Veterans Walk with $5K Donation

jcb-veterans-donation.jpgJohns Creek Beautification was proud to present a check for $5,000 to the Johns Creek Veterans Association on Oct. 14, 2014. The funds were used to help complete landscaping at the entrance plaza of the new Johns Creek Veterans Memorial Walk in Newtown Park on Old Alabama Road.

Board members Linda Westcott Johnson, Cindy Jenkins, Denise Wagner and Chuck Wilkinson presented the check to Johns Creek Veterans Association President Wayne Kidd and Treasurer Jim Williamson.

As fellow board member Linda Johnson mentioned in a recent nortfulton.com article, “We are honored to contribute to the new JC Veterans Memorial as a means to show our dedication and support for our city’s true heroes." It was, in fact, deeply gratifying to make this donation knowing that it would help ready the entrance for the memorial's Nov. 7 dedication and would help contribute to a unique and truly special feature in our city. It was most definitely in keeping with our mission to preserve and enhance the natural beauty in our common areas and public space.

The Johns Creek Veterans Memorial Walk is situated on a four acres of Newtown Park and is a handicap-accessible, landscaped trail with black granite memorials commemorating major U.S. conflicts dating from World War I. The entrance of the plaza features a brick sitting wall and flags for each branch of service.

As proud as we are for the small gift we made toward this project, we are also in awe, and extend our thanks, to everyone who supported and contributed to this project. Thanks to generous donations from the community, the Veterans association was able to complete this project without tax dollars. A significant amount of money was raised through the sale of personalized pavers which have been laid in front of the black granite memorials. Pavers are still available, and they make a pretty neat gift for the holidays. Visit the Veterans Association page at www.johnscreekga.gov for paver information.
